Choosing Your Timber Flooring

What sort of timber are you after?

Laminate, engineered wood flooring or solid timber flooring? The Carpet Company, we will present you with all of the different styles that you can choose from and talk with you about how you can use different materials to create the look you want.

Different Brands and Products

Laminate flooring is very hard to scratch, dent or mark. The laminate itself is hard like a formica benchtop and sits atop a very high-density fibre board, much like custom wood, it then sits on foam underlay. The beauty of this product is that it comes in many colourways and looks fantastic down. I can bring samples to your door and it’s very cost effective.

Wood-look vinyl plank is an affordable, low maintenance way to get that desirable wood flooring finish without the hassle and cost of maintaining a solid timber floor.

Engineered Timber Flooring

Engineered timber flooring is another option. Solid, natural timber laminate is placed on pine batons for strength. Heights available range from 7mm to 14mm and is floated on foam underlay. Ask us for more info if you desire a crisp, clean, natural look for your wooden flooring. Christchurch customers have been more frequently opting for Oak and Merbau and we have some great pricing to offer as demand for this type of product has pushed the market down to make engineered timber flooring very affordable.

Solid Wood Flooring:

Solid natural timber is more difficult to install as it has to be direct stuck to the floor or fixed to wooden batons. Solid timber can also be stained to get the colour and effect you’re looking for. Oak, Kauri, Rimu and Merbau are just some of the options available.

Preparation is paramount and usually, lengths of timber to be installed must be no longer than 2.5 metres. We can arrange supply and install of the product you require along with a specialist sander and polisher to finish off.
All options should be installed prior to skirting boards being installed.
In existing homes, the Skirting Boards should be removed then re-installed on completion. All Timbers need to be installed allowing for at least a 5mm circumference around the areas involved. This enables the product to expand and contract with the cold and heat. Wooden floors should be installed by an experienced qualified layer which can be arranged by us.

For wooden flooring, Christchurch-wide our team can help you to identify which option will give you the look and feel in your home or business while keeping within your budget.
